No conflict management: if you are not powerful and someone powerful does not like you, you are out, they will isolate you. It’s your word against their word and everyone in the IADB will believe their word. All is about power and having a good network at the IADB. There are many moral harassment cases at the IADB and, in these cases, they just will advise you to find another job outside the IADB. For this reason, it is risky to accept a job in the IADB and I would not recommend it, it’s like a lottery where you can win or lose. No meritocracy: performance management is not measurable. They have no data to measure your performance because they want to keep all decisions at political level and see if they like you or not. Your performance will be fully determined by hearsay, like in an organization from the XX century, so you better keep silent and don't trust anybody as everybody talk a lot and even if you say A, they may say you said B. They copy and paste from the World Bank. There are a few good professionals, all the others are politicians. Only those with the best political skills can thrive there. It is very disorganized. They have many long meetings for small things that could be fixed with a couple of short emails. Then after these long meetings there is often no follow-up on all the relevant decisions or actions. Unprofessionalism is common: many times, you send an email or ask a question through Teams and you get no response at all or you get a wrong answer.
