Avantages
The Tide street location is a beautiful environment complete with water views, snacks, and coffee galore. It is a fast paced, collaborative workplace that fosters new ideas and innovation. It is in an up and coming area in the Seaport District and has attracted a fun, bright, young group of people to work here.
Inconvénients
There are two distinct cultures at PTH, the culture for scientists and a much healthier culture for everyone else. For instance, scientists at the Tufts location don't receive the same perks that Tide street enjoys (Tide street is where the non-scientists also work). Communication is encouraged in meetings but having lunch together or even chatting in the cafe is frowned upon and will be met with comments like "You don't have anything better to do?". The culture for scientists has always been a bit toxic but recently the cherry was added on top. An email went out to the entire research team stating that we no longer have the option to work from home at all unless there is an emergency or we get permission from the CSO. So just months after we lost our free lunch benefit and uber reimbursements, we are now forced to come in everyday (even if we have no bench work that day), supply our own lunches outside of a $50 credit (covers about 3 days) and many of us need to rely on crowded public transportation which wastes time, energy, and increases our risk of exposure to COVID. This policy does not make sense given how much computer work is necessary for many scientists/senior scientists/ or leads. This new policy does not represent the kind of culture people are looking to work in.
