Note that I feel the intense obligation to give my review in spite of potential retribution. Good people should not potentially uproot their lives based on the glossy veneer during the interview process.
The thing that keeps coming back to my mind is the company mantra of "Practice Humility". I have been blown away at the humility of the team, but find none of it within the leadership. Bad news? Massage those numbers until they hurt only try to find positives to show. Don't like the way things are done and have suggestions for improvements? "Spreetail isn't for everyone" and you're "expendable" (direct words from Brett Thome). Major mistakes were made and people you hired with fantastic experience know how to fix it? Ignore them and plow your own path.
Let's be honest, most of the top leadership has made their way there by being OGs. What you won't see is demonstration of subject matter expertise or ability to take a company that happened to make it to $400M+ to the goals of multi-billion. Throw people at problems and work harder and longer hours instead of finding efficient ways to fix and scale. Make calls and judgements based on feelings instead of facts and case studies. Ignore people who have come from hugely successful companies that went through the same hurdles. This is the current way of working and leads to a bleak outlook from anyone who has industry experience.
I sincerely hope that this review soon is outdated because of major changes for the positive.
