Avantages
Being a tour guide gives you access to all the opportunities that are on campus because you need to memorize all this information to share with your guests. You are always meeting new people and I personally have made a lot of good memories while interacting with my guests. My oral presentation skills have also improved since we give 1 hour long tours to a range of audience.
Inconvénients
That being said, the upper management actually wanted us to omit some information to the guests. For instance, a lot of students came to UCR to learn about our nursing program (we don't have a nursing program which technically is the student's fault for not looking closer into what UCR has to offer) but our boss, instead of letting us be frank with these students, actually wanted us to tell them that its okay that we don't have a nursing program, that they could transfer to another university once they are done with their general ed. WHAT, and let the students waste money and time?? Absolutely horrible advice. The tour guides have to fight to be 100% transparent to their guests.
