The first technical interview was with a senior engineer and another software engineer. From the start, it felt like the senior engineer had already made up their mind based solely on my resume. Their demeanor was demeaning, dismissive, and confrontational. It was hard to determine whether they were simply curt by nature or unable to shake off some preconceived bias. The situation was further complicated by their tendency to cut me off before I could fully explain my points and, at times, disregard what had already been discussed. Interviews are a two-way process where candidates also evaluate potential employers. For a company that frequently emphasizes collaboration, it seemed like an odd decision to have this individual represent the organization. Interactions like this make one question the true nature of the work environment and how "collaborative" it really is. This wasn’t just a poor interview—it was one of the worst professional interactions I’ve ever experienced.

I have been in this situation before. I joined my first job when I was 22. After the initial few months, I started feeling suffocated at my workplace. Needless to say, I was very unhappy with it for some obvious reasons. Even I felt like quitting, but I somehow managed to tame my restless emotions. Thanks to my mentors, who handled me with rationale. They gave me the following logic to not quit my job. Joblessness can affect you financially and mentally. Without any backup, such a decision can leave your depressed after a few days. If you prepare for any competitive exams that are always uncertain, a job as a backup gives you confidence, and that helps you perform relatively better. Given the current market situation, getting a job is tough. So, one should not take it for granted. The preparation of all the competitive exams can be done with a job. The job keeps you busy and focused. If you hate your job, use it as a motivation to give your best to land in a better place. I found all these reasons legitimate. Having said that, I never suggest anyone leave a job without any backup. So, don’t quit your job. Stick to it and try for something better side by side.
