      Entretien

Adaptive Road reached out to me directly after finding me on LinkedIn. After the initial connection with Matt, I was introduced to Mark, who had me take a Culture Index Survey prior to my initial "Discovery" call with him. The survey was short, and the results were sent to Mark, who interpreted them for me on our first call. This was my first indication that Adaptive Road was a bit different than other companies with whom I had interviewed. On that call, Mark talked about the company in general and assessed where I was at in my professional career. He asked how I felt about working remotely for a company as opposed to working in an office setting - all of Adaptive Road work remotely, as it turned out. This was also very interesting and different. I hadn't worked from home before, so this made me somewhat nervous, and I let Mark know that - he let me know that was understandable. Mark also introduced me to Holacracy, the organizational structure in which Adaptive Road and its parent company, ArcherPoint, operate. This was still further proof that this company was different, especially considering that the Holacracy approach, as I understood it, meant that there was no traditional management structure, in the strictest sense. Instead, employees were their own managers. I also was told at this point that the company was set up as an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), meaning that all the employees were part-owners, and that the company is working toward 100% employee ownership in the near future. Next, I met with Kyle, one of the other consultants at Adaptive Road, and Jillali, the sales account manager, for a conference call / interview. They gave me their backgrounds and experiences at Adaptive Road / ArcherPoint, and Kyle asked me some in-depth questions about the scripting / development work I had done. From there, Matt set up a call for me to talk to Brendon, the lead link / practice manager for Adaptive Road. The call with Brendon is what cemented in my mind that I wanted to work for this company - Brendon was open and honest, and laid out on the table what he was looking for and how he felt I fit in. We were on the same page throughout the call, and by the end of it I felt pretty good about the opportunity. I was under the impression that the next step would be flying out to Minneapolis for an interview with Brendon, however the team decided they wanted me to interview with one other consultant, Brian. Brian and I chatted about the role and my skillset, and he asked me some NetSuite-specific questions to gauge the level of my knowledge and experience. He told me I passed. I next had a call with Mark again to discuss how the compensation model at Adaptive Road works. It differs depending on role and individual there, but suffice it to say that it is a very fair and mathematical model, with plenty of opportunity for gaining incentives. Finally, they scheduled a flight for me to go out to Minneapolis to meet with Brendon. Since Jillali and Brian also live in Minneapolis, they also came out to meet me. Mark was in town as well, and picked me up from the airport. I booked my flight myself, and the company reimbursed me right away, though they did offer that if that would have been too much trouble, they could have booked it for me. I met with the team, and even met Greg, the CEO of ArcherPoint, who happened to be in the office that day (normally, I was told, Greg simply has a final phone interview with any prospective new hire as a last-step). My conversations that day with the team were very casual, and there was next to no formal interview aspects to it. My meeting with Greg was focused around the company; he wanted to know what questions I had for him, and did not really have any questions for me specifically. The conversations were pleasant, and then Mark, Brendon, Brian, Jillali and I went out to lunch. I spent the weekend in Minneapolis by myself (on my own dime) to take in a city I hadn't visited before, and the day after I returned I had a conversation with Mark extending me the employment offer. The compensation offered was what I expected given the extensive conversation throughout the interviews, and it was an easy decision for me at that point - so, I was hired.
