Friendly atmosphere, emphasis on depth of knowledge and instructional skills. After introductions and "small talk" the Operations Manager and Chief Pilot explain the background of the school, the general training philosophy, what they are looking for in a Flight Instructor. HR explains compensation and benefits. The candidate then presents a 15min lesson on a previously given subject. It falls easily within the normal range of what a Flight Instructor teaches regularly. However, depth of knowledge must go farther than casual reference to the Airplane Flying Handbook. Once this stage is passed the candidate will fly with a Standards Pilot for assessment of basic flying skills and comprehension of new material. Depending on the outcome of the overall process the candidate may be offered a position on the spot or through e-mail / phone a few days later.
