Interview was interesting to say the least. This was in the early days when there was minimal funding, and they had not secured much. However I was told that “raising money is no problem”. When they extended an offer they said that because they have not raised the round just yet, they wouldn’t be able to pay me until the month of July (we were targeting a June start date). Naturally I said, that’s fine, I will start in July! Nope, they kept coming up with different ways to spin it and citing fundraising as the issue, and would not even commit to paying me retroactively when the money was raised. I came back and offered to just start work when they could comfortably pay the employees (you know, for working?) but it was clear the founder John was simply trying to squeeze a new grad for a month of free work. Thank god I dodged that bullet, by the looks of a lot of the real reviews my impression of the founder was spot on and I saved myself a lot of headache.
