      Entretien

The Breakroom staff were lovely, but their interview process could use a serious overhaul. The whole process was orchestrated by a US-based in-house recruiter from their parent company ZipRecruiter and it would be a much smoother process if the whole thing was managed by Breakroom. The interview process is meant to be 5-stages in theory. A friend told me about the open role and tried to make a soft intro with one of the founding members, so that's where the process started for me. I don't normally give such detailed descriptions but I think this timeline of events will help the company (and potential applicants), so here it is: Oct 08: Mutual connection attempts to make a soft intro for the role on LI. Oct 14: Apply via their Workable job posting as our mutual connection didn't hear anything back. Oct 17: Recruiter (CD, Senior Talent Acquisition Partner) emails me to schedule an intro call. Book the same day for Oct 22 as it's the earliest available slot that works due to UK-US time zone differences. Oct 22: Intro call w/ CD. NO SHOW - first time in my career I've experienced this. I email twice during the allotted time, one at the beginning to make sure I was in the right call, and another at the end to reschedule. Oct 27: CD replies five (!) days later saying their Google Calendar didn't sync and asks to reschedule, despite them having sent me an updated invitation 43 mins before the scheduled call where the start time remained unchanged, so I expect that the event would be fresh in their mind. But we move on - we manage to reschedule for the next day. Oct 28: Intro screening call w/ CD. Nov 04: Tech screening call w/ CPTO. Nov 05-06: CD invites me to the next stage. We email back and forth to arrange. There's a little confusion because the next stage is supposed to be a 1-hour take-home challenge followed by a technical interview, but the invite is for a behavioural interview. I ask for clarification, it's due to scheduling constraints. We settle on Nov 10 16:30 GMT for the behavioural interview. Nov 10: I email CD because I haven't received a Google Calendar invite for the "Ways of working" interview which is supposed to take place today. CD reschedules and sends an invite for the next day. Nov 11: Behavioural interview w/ Product Designer & CDO. Nov 25: Despite receiving positive feedback during the Nov 11 interview (and likewise I had a positive experience interviewing the two non-engineers, as every stage is a two-way process), I haven't heard anything back from CD so I email asking if there's an update. No reply to this day. I've been ghosted twice now during the process. Perhaps this is common now with it being an employer's market, but I have never experienced this beforehand in the Tech sector. A quick and courteous rejection would have been nice in terms of closure, otherwise it's unclear if the application just fell through the cracks and requires more chasing or if you've been silently rejected. My overall impression is that Breakroom would be a fine company and group of people to work with, but they are hurting their reputation due to a terrible hiring process that's managed by their parent company. My expectations of the process were higher as Breakroom and ZipRecruiter are both in the employment marketplace space.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

(Paraphrasing from memory as it's been a while since the interviews.) Tell me about a project you've worked on that had scale. Tell me about a time where you worked on getting better at something. Tell me about a non-technical co-worker that inspired you.
