      Entretien

I got an email almost immediately after submission of my resume. She set up a phone interview which happened the next week. We spoke for 45 minutes and she said I sounded like a good fit and we set an interview for me to meet a lady at the actual corporate office. The woman said she worked part-time and just did HR. I was right on time that following Monday to meet the woman. Well it turned out to be two women. The office from looking around was all women and very nice overall. I was surprised when the two women came in but I'm very comfortable talking with people and very experienced for what I was applying for. Well I felt uncomfortable almost immediately. It turned out to be a director of operations and a senior management person as well. The one woman was just very awkward and having a conversation with her was very one way and very difficult. The other lady was very nice but the whole thing was strange. I've actually trained people in a past position on how to interview and I myself have interviewed many people and I was shocked by the strange experience. It was unfortunately not worth the 1.5 hour drive. I emailed both of them to simply thank them for their time and tell them that regardless of their decision, I hoped for the best for them and wished them a happy holiday season. Neither one of them were professional enough to return the call. I think the whole thing may have been more comfortable if I was more like them though. I am a people person, educated and social. I got the impression that these women were very conservative, very quiet and not socially adapted. Someone who is very low key, calm and quiet may fit in well here but I knew right away that it wasn't the place for me or anyone with an outgoing or cheerful personality. They asked questions, not many at all (I think I asked more of them!). Things about experiences in my past jobs with employees, difficult situations, just your typical interview stuff. They only manage seniors so they want someone who is low key and slow moving as a good fit for them which is understandable. They also said they want someone who makes the property their entire life. Spending your off time volunteering throughout the community, making your face known around town. Things like chamber of commerce meetings and community functions, especially for seniors. One thing is that the current manager was stepping aside. She is apparently 73 years old and had been with the company for 5 years which means they hired her at 68 years old, that explains a lot I think!!
