I had a disappointing interview process for a CISCO position in Prague.
It was a very long process with several interviews canceled or rescheduled that lasted from October until January, but that's not a problem at all.
The most strange thing for me was their motivation for not selecting me - they said it's because of my part-time freelance projects, stipulating that they might affect my productivity within the company (I specifically mentioned that they take a maximum of 5 hours per week and do not affect my full-time job in any way). For me it is astonishing (not in the good sense) to realize that a company like CISCO would not encourage something like freelance work, that anyone is free to do in their free time, especially if it would add more value to the individual in their specific field in the end. I have learned a whole lot from those projects... This makes me think that the work/life balance isn't very balanced.
I hope the above wasn't their true reason for not selecting me.

During the interview, I was asked questions on computer networking concepts, operating system fundamentals, and medium-level coding problems. The questions evaluated my understanding of networking principles, OS mechanisms like processes and memory management, and my ability to solve moderately challenging programming tasks.

R1 - 30 Min with Manager. Very strange didnt ask questions really just prepped me for R2.
R2 - Take home Terraform assignment. Fix the terraform code. Had lots of errors purposely trying to trick you. Spelling errors too.
R3 - Pannel Interview. They gave me a live troubleshooting of Chef module deployed on nginx server. Even though I didn't know any Chef/nginx. They also said no Chef knowledge is needed lol. Basically the solution was to use linux Grep to find a "spelling error" in Chef module. How is someone supposed to know if that without any prior Chef experience lol. The interview was not hard at all I work on things way harder than that but the interview was meant to trick you. Also during the Panel interview I got asked questions that dont make sense on purpose by one of the newbies. I didnt want to tell them they are wrong so i just let it be. They asked me "Explain how security groups in AWS applied to subnets work?" That functionality doesnt exist lol. That interviewer didnt know what he was talking about. How is it fair that im judged based on his dumb misinformed question?
