The interview was held in a very unfriendly manner. The family who opened up the Toronto location claimed, that they have already been running another branch in somewhere in Midwest. I understand the purpose of establishing yourself and your business to a potential employee, but to me it felt like a way of reassuring the candidate that their ways have proven to be successful.
When they started talking about the compensation, all the previous gut feeling just instantly made sense. Since the company is based in the US, they have used a percentage-based salary (it does not build up on a fixed hourly rate), with an extensive punishment system. There are so many ways they can deny you your compensation, it’s insane!
If you give a discount to close the sale (which they strongly suggest you do) and do it more often than your set limit, or go over 10-15% mark, the difference will be covered from your salary. You are given a number of clients each month and the clients are distributed by the management. They want you to close at least half of the sales to be paid.
I can’t believe these rules can slide under Canadian Labour laws, so I declined the offer. I hope they will overlook their business practices to better match the local job market.

Hiring manager was rude. You should not interview candidates without getting and giving the proper information regarding your job posting. The position I applied for was said to be offered as 'part-time' or 'full-time'; however, as soon as I mentioned I had a full-time job and was looking for something part-time I was abruptly hung up on. There should have been explicit information on what they were looking for. Clear lack of professionalism within management, probably avoided a not so great work environment. I have an HR background, so seeing that companies are operating this way is very disheartening.

There were no formal interview questions, just a spiel about the position and then the question of it I had any questions.
