      Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien chez Code42 (Minneapolis, MN) en sept. 2015

      Entretien

Applied online and got selected for a short 30 minute phone call with the talent recruiter. The phone call is much like another reviewer said, first part is getting to know me and discussing the company and the second part were technical questions. Afterwards, the talent recruiter follows up an open book written test that is completely done through email. The questions were to test how well your technical writing skills are and how well you can convey complex technical concepts to the layman. Then I was selected to do an in-person interview with three different groups of people, 30 minutes each. The first group were managers who were to analyze the cultural fit of me. The company culture is young, vibrant, and the company supports them to the best they can be. This interview was where I got to learn all about the company and the position. The second group consisted of technical leads who were to check my technical skill set and get to know how I think through a problem. They presented a basic scenario of an FTP server being down with a client needing critical files, I just needed to find out what was exactly wrong. From there I present a theory to test, and they explain whether that theory worked. If not, I move onto the next theory, and so forth. They were straightforward that it was a zero-sum scenario, and they seemed impressed that I was able to narrow down a few common issues they didn't even think of themselves. The problem ended up being that the share disk on the FTP server was down, which was a simple solution but served as an example of problems that can be impossible to diagnosis with limited information. The final group consisted of a few more managers and ended up being the most off-putting. Essentially, it was to ask questions why I wanted to work at Code42 and why I would want a support position. The primary person asking the questions seemed more interested in his laptop than what I had to say, which raised a couple red flags which I didn't have any up until that point. The first being the behavior went against what the company was trying to represent towards their customers, and two, it showed that his mind was already made up about my candidacy. He had very few questions to ask, and any questions I asked he struggled to answer. That was the only time throughout the process I felt nervous, and it really showed. Overall, it was a great interview process. I'm bummed that I didn't get the job, because other than the last interview, they made me feel like I was a slamdunk candidate, and I know my work ethic & history backs that up. I hope by chance, I was just edged out by a better candidate, and they will reach out to me again in the future.
