Originally, I applied for Collibra’s trainer role but they saw that I would be a good fit for the Onboarding engineering role instead. They would later let me go onsite for a final round interview with four individuals.
1st interviewer: The engineer interviewing me asked me basic questions on my developer experience. He also some technical questions. One of the questions dealt with what the differences between Ruby and Java are. In addition, he asked me about my troubleshooting experience. I expressed to him my IT support experience in the financial industry and my teaching experience. He also asked what I do outside of work. I answered the questions fine.
2nd interviewer: I gave a brief synopsis of my resume to the manager. She let me know that majority of the clients are in the financial industry. That is when she asked me about my experience supporting people in finance. She clearly didn’t read my resume thoroughly to know I worked as an IT at the biggest bank in the United States. From the conversation, she seemed disinterested in me.
3rd interviewer: This would be the second time I was interviewed by the HR manager. He asked me if anyone sent me a more detailed description of the role which no one did. So, he was unable to ask me the technical questions he had lined up to me. Strange how they were not prepared. Later he asked me for some support engineer questions. I answered them thoroughly even though the role deals with educating people on Java and API’s which was odd.
4th interviewer: I was interviewed by the manager on my background and he seemed more relaxed. Just general questions. In addition, he asked me about my IT background since I used to work at a bank. The conversation went well.
Recruiter: The recruiter notified me that they would not be proceeding with me since I don’t have enough experience in support. It is odd that me working at the biggest bank in the United States as an IT doesn’t suffice support experience. In addition, the role entails that I would be educating individuals which I do have more than two years’ experience in.
