This was by far the most shady interview I’ve ever participated in. I was instructed to download an app called Wire and to contact my point-person there in order to set up an interview. Upon contacting this person, my interview wasn’t so much “scheduled” as it “immediately began”- strike 1. The entire interview was conducted over text chat, which I found very unprofessional; how are you supposed to get a vibe from someone or a feel for their character over text messaging? Strike 2. Questions were just strange. The kick-off question: what movies do you like to watch. I was then asked- applying as an editor- if I like to shoot JPEG or RAW. I was not given a chance to ask any questions or have a two-way conversation. Strike 3. After eye-rolling my way through the interview, I was offered the job 24 hours later and given a very sparse 3-page “contract” that would be paying me $80k+ annually. I thanked my point-of-contact and politely asked him if I would have an opportunity to ask some questions about the business/work environment, to which he said yes and would be directing me to HR so I could continue with the process. He ceased all communication with me immediately; I’m assuming this was some stupid game of chicken and he was expecting me to say “screw it”, be tempted by the salary and just sign on the dotted line sight-unseen. I did not. Needless to say, something smelled rotten from the get-go and it only got worse. I don’t know what the deal is with this place, if they scam their hires out of money, or if they just generally suck as a company, but it was abundantly clear that something was way off here. I would never recommend applying for a job here.
