      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 4 jours. J'ai passé un entretien chez Cox Automotive (Atlanta, GA) en août 2019

      Entretien

This was the worst in-person interview experience I ever had. Let me walk through the overall interview process before we get to the interesting parts. A recruiter contacted me about a contract role advertised as a "Tableau Engineer" position. That recruiter's company received very little information about what the job really entailed. And there wasn't much clarity on what the hiring manager actually wanted. Next, I had a technical phone screen with someone who works with the recruiting company, in which I answered around 10 to 15 random technical questions about Tableau in a test-like format . I passed that technical phone screen. Two days later, I had an in-person interview with a manager and her employee. They sat me down at a cheap dining table in the lobby of their building near the front entrance. Right off the bat, this indicated that there was little esteem and respect for the position. Random bystanders were walking by during this entire interview. It was initially difficult to build rapport with my two interviewers and it didn't get much better from there. Walking in, there was little indication of what level of Python expertise they wanted. I had at least 20 to 30 questions about Python to answer in a test-like format. Just to make it a little worse, I was interrupted a few times as I was trying to answer these questions. I couldn't even ask more than one question about the position and the department. It was evident half-way through that this team and position weren't a good fit and I had a strong desire to get out of there. However, I stayed since I sacrificed nine vacation hours for this interview. I definitely sensed condescension from the employee of the manager during this hour-long interview. I'm not sure that condescension was warranted since it wasn't clear what they were looking for in a candidate before this interview. Absolutely no one wants to interview for a position for which they're not a good fit and wouldn't enjoy, so why make a negative experience worse? I got the impression that people of most personality types wouldn't want to work on that team. Overall, it was the most uncomfortable interview that I ever attended. I could have interviewed for a more ideal position else where and there would have been more to gain for everyone involved. I wouldn't wish this type of interview experience on anyone.
