Less than one week after applying via email, I had a first Skype interview with an HR staff member. I'm Brazilian and the position was for Linz, Austria. She asked a couple of personal questions, such like why I wanted to move to Austria and, most importantly, she kindly explained me the legal process for Austrian companies to hire non-EU nationals. Two or three days later I had a technical interview with the owners of the company, and I must say it was a very pleasant one. They were very polite and respectful. There were a couple of important questions: (1) Why I was interested on moving from a researcher career to a developing/support position in industry? (2) General questions about my knowledge in C++. (3) Some details about the research projects I had been working on. (4) A sample of a production code I had developed, which I readily provided. All the doubts I had about the position were answered. The interview must have lasted about an hour. Never had a response, positive or negative.
