The budget for this job was listed as $46,631.00 - $72,861.00, but they only offered 51k. This was too low based on my customer service experience, degrees, and list of skills. I tried to negotiate higher but they said they couldn't even get to 60k. Weird for an office that specifically lists their budget up to 72k. I declined, it's not a livable wage for the county - it wouldn't even cover the extra gas I would need to commute. I think the people were very nice, and it was very easy to communicate with the hiring team and HR. I think it's a little grimy that a sheriff's office would post a certain budget, and then tell me they can't actually match what they wrote down.
