My experience with DeepL went from positive to negative very quickly: They contacted me almost immediately after I submitted my CV and cover letter online, and I had three interviews over the next four weeks. At the end of the third interview, I was told I would receive a response within the next seven days – but four months later, I’m still waiting! The job ad for that particular language has now been taken down, which would imply that the position has been filled. Personally, I think it’s pretty rude not to bother telling candidates that they’ve been unsuccessful, especially once they’ve used annual leave to attend multiple interviews. It shows a lack of respect for our time and effort, and I had expected better given the generally positive reviews of DeepL on here. As for the interviews themselves, they were very intense and consisted of a series of exercises to test my foreign and native languages skills. Like other posters, I found that the interviewers tried to steer me towards giving particular answers, despite claiming to be interested in my thought processes more than my responses. Some of them also gave the impression that they really didn’t want to be there – for example, I asked one a courteous “How are you?” and she huffed and replied “Looking forward to the weekend!” (it was Thursday morning). In summary, I found my experience with DeepL disappointing and unprofessional.

This was a Zoom meeting. The HR person told me it would be a mere short pre-interview talk and I shouldn't prepare anything in advance. I was also given to understand this would be a one-on-one talk. However, it turned out there would be a second person present (the current language specialist), and there was a minitest. I thought I did well on it. In the end, they said they would reach me within the next couple of weeks to inform me whether I've made it to the next stage. It took them shorter than that: the HR person contacted me on the next day, telling me I didn't. When I asked for feedback, they said they weren't giving any: it's just that they had a certain "set of hard and soft skills" required from an applicant, but they can't elaborate.
