This recruiting experience was distasteful for the reason that it was outright hostile and I'm not sure why (after all - they reached out to me!)
I asked the basic questions one would expect to know as a leader of an organization:
- Can you tell me about the job roles of the team (the JD listed two distinct titles, hence why I asked)?... "Why do you want to know?"
- Can you tell me how many people are on the team I would lead?... "No."
- Is this a new or established role?... "I am not at liberty to discuss"
- Can you tell me a little about the typical customer profile we're supporting?... "I'm not even going to go there."
- What tooling are you using to support your servicing teams (Zendesk, Salesforce, etc.)?...
Every question was met with a tone of irritation and I just wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible.
There was an abrupt and rote description of "next steps" which I then repeated back in summary to confirm my understanding - which was met with a terse, "I'm not saying you're going to the next step. I'm making no guarantees."
I withdrew my contention for the role immediately due to the caustic nature of this conversation. Ironic for a company that says, "We humanize technology..." and, "your role is all about people."
I'm very sorry that this was your experience. I'm the Vice President of People Operations at Summit (formerly Deft). If you'd like me to contact you directly to discuss this, please feel free to email hr@deft.com.
