Figma reached out to me directly and recruited me. I spent about four hours speaking with various team members and another three to four hours preparing for the interviews, reviewing the documents and videos they shared at their recommendation. Throughout the process, they were intentional about making me feel valued and repeatedly expressed interest in my experience. The interviews themselves were positive and engaging, and the people were easy to talk to. The process ended with a generic rejection email stating they were moving forward with other candidates, with no explanation or feedback, despite previously telling me I was the ideal candidate. It felt like being love bombed for two weeks and then broken up with, with no reason provided. I understand that not every process results in an offer, but the contrast between the engagement shown upfront and the way the process was closed was disappointing. Some basic context or feedback would have gone a long way in helping me understand the decision. I don’t regret the conversations I had with Figma, but the experience has made me hesitant about engaging in future conversations with them. The people were good to talk to, but the process reflects how candidate time and effort are valued.

Process took a few weeks. Initial chat with a hiring manager and then two days of interviews split up by a week of time. From a structure perspective the interview is reasonable and what you would expect. Overall the interviewers were somewhat inexperienced and clearly reading off a set of questions rather than it being a two way conversation about specific topics. Go into this prepared to answer a stock set of questions. One interviewer looked visibly angry coming into the call, another was rushed and distracted. It's a well designed interview but was not impressed with the overall pool of people I spoke with. Technical portions were reasonable but the architecture presentation session is with an engineer rather than an EM so be prepared to go from super deep to high level. A little curious how they are evaluating this portion, might be something to ask about before going in. Overall not a terrible experience but I didn't walk away feeling like they have their stuff together. Please don't put folks into sessions that clearly don't want to be there! Seems like a fun place but I would not want the majority of these folks supporting me and my career if I were an IC.
