I applied online, got an email after 2 weeks to schedule a phone screen, the phone screen took about an hour, he asked a lot of basic networking and security questions. it was pretty straight forward stuff if you have done CCNA training.
Then i got a call the same week for an in person interview in two weeks.
The in person interview was with one engineer and the TAC manager, it took close to 3 hours, it was like the first phone screen but now they went into deep details, from TCP handshake to routing protocols to IPsec VPN tunnels, it was really deeper than i expected.
So i knew i didn't prepare well enough for this round.
so weeks went by and i didn't hear back from them, i emailed the hiring manager and he replied that they have not made a decision yet, so weeks when by again and out of nowhere i got an email asking for a second round of in-person interview, i knew this timei had to do better.
It was still the same format but i did a lot of labs before the interview to refresh my skills especially in IPsec IKE VPN which i was not doing a lot of in my present job.
So i went for the interview and came out on top this time. when i left after the interview i knew i had done well and they will get back to me lol. So before i got home from the location i got a call that i had aced the interview and that was it.

I spent more than 20+ hours on 5+ interviews, including a 5 hour take home test and going to their office for 3 consecutive interviews. Then I waited 1.5 months for a rejection without explanation. No respect for our time.

Great interview experience! The focus was on networking fundamentals like LAN, OSPF, TCP/IP, and the OSI model. The questions were technical but fair, testing both theoretical knowledge and practical application. A great way to assess networking expertise.

I had interview for the “Technical support Engineer” at Fortinet on Dec 6th 2024.
After first questions, "what is the 7 OSI layers and the sample protocol for each layer", the interviewer told me show him my keyboard, because he felt, I am looking too much bottom of the screen.
then he asked me to share my screen. and he said that I am using chatgpt for cheating. That chatgpt question was VRF leaking related to my task for my current job.
I have more that 15 years experience as a network engineer and consultant. I spent time to pass NSE4 certificate for this role requirement and planned to relocate to Ottawa. the interviewer stop interview easily. The interviewer didn't even turn his webcam.
