I applied and completed an initial phone screen. It was standard questions about my background and experience and the interviewer was pleasant. I did not move forward to the next round because I didn't have experience with GitLab. My advice to people applying would be to at least get a free certification so you know the basics of the software before applying.
Had a fairly thorough phone screen, then met with the hiring manager. Seemed to go well until the HM threw in a request for me to describe how their platform worked. Coming from outside the industry, I know what they do in a general sense, but there's no way I'd know how the platform worked. There was no mention in the role description that they were looking for someone with in-depth product knowledge. Also, researching the company is a regular part of a job search, but I'm not going to take a course or otherwise learn the product without being paid for it.
