I applied for a position as a software developer. Homebot told me that they wanted to hire a pair of developers that had worked together, so I reached out to my friend who was still looking for a job. After interviews, they decided to extend an offer to my friend, only. They said he "sounded more confident." I was devastated until I looked at their website. Then it made sense. I am a female minority that graduated at the top of my class. My friend is a white male that graduated near the bottom of the same class. (in fact, I helped him through many of his projects). When they told me that he "sounded more confident," what they were really telling me is that I wasn't white enough. It was especially devastating because I believed their lie about hiring a pair of developers when, in the end, they used me to recruit for them. Take a look at their photos, here.
