I applied online (Resume only) and it took approximately one month between the application and the in-person interview at their offices. It was a great panel-interview with the director of the economics department and a senior economist. The interviewers were nice, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. This helped turn the interview into a professional conversation and a great learning experience for both parties. They mostly focused on my resume, my research projects, and Canadian economics questions. While describing my research projects, they asked me several questions on the econometrics behind my approach. They were genuinely interested in my research, the methodology that I used, the results that I obtained, and their relevance in the field. They asked a few questions to test my economics knowledge. Namely, they wanted to know my thought process when faced with economic impact assessment questions. The last portion of the interview was a 30 minute writing test. They provided me with a 6-pages-long Statcan report and expected me to write a one paragraph analysis that a client would want to read. Roughly 3-5 days after the interview, the HR Manager contacted me via email for a brief follow up phone call during which he made me an offer.
