Applied online and a few days later I got an email from a recruiter to schedule an interview. Had about a 30 minute standard recruiter interview--discussed past roles etc. After the call was told the recruiter was going to forward her notes to the hiring manager to potentially set up an interview. After a week I didn't hear anything from the recruiter so I reached out and was told the hiring manager was very busy and they would be in touch soon. Of course -- the recruiter never got back in touch and never followed up. I don't mind that the hiring manager didn't think I was a right fit--it can be a tough pill to swallow sometimes to get passed over but it happens when you're looking for a job. What I don't appreciate is a recruiter stringing you along and then not having the courage to be honest and tell you you're a pass. It's totally unprofessional. I know that the recruiters don't always have insight in to what the hiring manager is doing or how they are moving forward--but, if the recruiter is your only contact with the company and they ghost you -- it looks really bad on the company and confirms you dodged a bullet. The job market is tough these days and to not even be able to treat job applicants like they matter--and instead just waste their time and emotional energy--it's just rude. Better luck to anyone else applying.
