Originally referred through an Executive Recruiter, they coached me to. specifically focus the discussion on tactical HR vs strategic. Once over three reschedules of the phone interview was finalized ( difficult in of itself) we connected.
Essentially my resume was recited per request of the interviewer, carefully focusing on specific well rounded tactical administrative roles (as coached) .
The discussion shifted to strategic as my career naturally grew over 18 plus years and packaged it from an approach of supporting a large global workforce through “ positions of increased responsibility”.
Unfortunately the “feedback” received was “too much focus on tactical and subsequently would not move forward in the process.
One can only conclude the obvious, mislead, muscoached etc etc.
First lesson learned, let the candidate be themselves because this is the third time in nine months misaligned advice was given, perhaps with good intentions but also the interviewing principle may have thought the global strategic piece of my Sr career was misaligned for the role.
Second lesson learned is underselling the totality of experience a candidate has worked hard on for the sake of a job is a disservice to the process but most importantly yourself.
I will never work with either party again.
