Discrimination in the interview
It took 3 months from applying/sending in resume to get a response regarding the job position. The manager reviewed my qualifications over the phone, seemed upbeat and scheduled a formal interview 3 days later.
I met with 3 managers at once. My years of experience, qualifications and credentials for the position were more than adequate. It seemed as though the conversation centered around if I was a fit for the company.
2 of the managers spoke out of turn of their customers. "Half of our customers have their moms or girlfriends do their book work" one said derisively. Another said complacently, "We don't compete on price." Their attitude seemed like business will fall right into their lap, no need to be competitive, customers are ignorant and we take advantage of that. I queried some relevant questions regarding the position and listened carefully.
Then in the middle of the interview something odd happened. The hiring manager who called me in just 3 days prior said this job I'm applying for is the "junior sales rep." [An entry, low paying job I'm overqualified for]. I've never experience a bait-and-switch like this in an interview. Manager continued, "we hired the inside sales rep from within the company." Manager turns head looking for reassurance to the other 2 continues "it usually takes 6 months, a year and we promote."
So poof! The job I applied for and interviewed disappeared in the middle of the interview. I'm qualified for position, carried myself in a professional manner and appearance, the only thing that changed was they met me in person.
And guess what? Week after I got the "we're sorry" letter, the position is back online, open and looking for applicants.
