I applied online, then they called me after a couple of days for an interview at Moodle HQ in West Perth. In the interview were the CEO, the HR Coordinator, and the Development Manager. They asked me about my background as a software developer and my current visa status in Australia. After the chat about my history, the interview shifted into the technical part. They asked me some technical questions about PHP development and web app security. They also had me review several code snippets and determine what's wrong with them. They also asked me if I can show some examples of my previous software development work. As all of my previous works from my former employer were closed source and subject to NDA, I couldn't show them anything. Good thing I was working on a personal iOS app project at the time, so I was able to show them a demo of it. After the interview, the HR Coordinator called me to congratulate me that I passed the initial interview and got in for the second part of the hiring process. This time, they sent me a ticket about one of the issues in Moodle from their issue tracker website. The objective is to provide a patch for the said issue and I had two days to work on it. I submitted two solutions to the issue and explained my preferred solution. After that, they offered me the role, called my referees, and the rest is history. I guess what I liked about the interview process is that they actually asked me and tested what I can do to determine whether I am actually suitable for the role. Other companies I interviewed in before Moodle didn't do this and were simply asking the usual generic interview questions like "How do you see yourself in 5 years?", "What are your weaknesses?", etc., which I personally think are not very helpful at all, especially for someone like me whose English is not the first language and not very eloquent in expressing one's self.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

Some questions that I remember: * What is Moodle? * Have you used Moodle before? * Describe your background as a software developer. * What are the most common security threats on web applications?

I usually do not put reviews on interviews, But recently I have noticed some interview reviews about this company Moodle and also I have noticed some fake reviews submitted by moodle company itself. If you are reading this review then its your lucky day. Never ever apply for this company as they tricked you to fix their live bugs. Its not just once or twice. Martin Dougiamas is the master mind behind it. Also as an advise if any company asking to fix real bugs, they are not doing the correct thing. It happens to me like other developers reported, here. Simply asked me to fix bug, then they just vanished from me after applying my bug fix.

Hi there, We have a progressive recruitment process which evolves and is updated regularly. It is not a one size fits all approach but rather each hiring manager determines the best way to source and select candidates for their team. We interview to assess technical ability as well as cultural fit as we strive to become a GREAT place to work (it's one of our company goals) and look for people who are aligned to this and our values. We use a technical challenge/test which involves bug fixes to help evaluate a candidate's technical ability and this is generally standardised for the role so that we can compare candidates fairly. We also include multiple interviews with the new potential team so our team members can input into the process too. Overall it's comprehensive and ensures that we find the right person for the job. Please feel free to reach out to me personally to provide feedback on the process, as we always like to improve and update… it’s part of our values Education (always learning) and Openness (open to feedback).
