I was contacted by a recruiter to confirm my interest in the company and position and he restated the salary. The next step was a phone interview with the Publisher whom I found to be affable, direct but pleasant. The interview went well and I was invited to give a live in person full blown media presentation. A date was set and I received quite the detailed assignment including information on the prospective advertiser ( a medical office) volumes of information about the category and lastly a ton of information on the media brand, in this case The Jersey Journal digital site and print publication.
I culled the information I deemed as necessary including audience data, demographics, purchasing information, editorial relevancy, the actual media presentation (multi-channel) etc. Lastly I created a beautiful and effective PowerPoint presentation.
The day of the presentation I drove to their office in Secaucus was greeted by a pleasant reception and ushered into a cool waiting a room. The publisher walked in we did the perfunctory introductions and I was whisked off for a site tour. Later we met the VP Sales also very pleasant (he had also worked for one of my past employers) then into the presentation room.
I impressed them and the presentation ended. After a moment of silence I attempted a soft close. You've got to ask for the order in sales and in an interview too. I said "so guys tonight I'll have dinner with my wife and she'll say how did it go? I'll tell her I think I nailed it. They said okay give us a day to talk between ourselves and we'll get in touch.
I got a phone call the next day form the publisher and received an offer.
