I had a four step interview process that included a project (example client presentation). It took considerable time and included some research but was worth it. I know it allowed them to see not only how I communicate, but what I know. I really enjoyed meeting the founder and other team members. They were very friendly and that has proved to be true while on staff.

I came in, talked to a random person and during the interview the interviewer hands me a computer and tells me I have 30 minutes to create a presentation and completely look over a company’s marketing. Extremely unprofessional to not tell the candidate they have to do this. Needless to say, the presentation was not up to their standards.
