I recently completed a phone interview for a corporate VP position. The interview itself was straightforward, and the conversation went well. However, after reflecting on the role, I realized that my background wasn't an ideal match for their needs, and the position wasn't aligned with what I'm currently seeking. As a result, I’m not particularly disappointed about not advancing in the process.
That said, I was taken aback by the automated rejection message I received. For a senior-level position, I would have expected more personal communication. It only takes a moment to send a brief, individualized response rather than relying on a generic email. Recruiters should remember that every candidate, even those not selected, could be a future applicant, customer, or business partner.
On the positive side, I suppose I dodged a bullet here!
