Received an invitation to have an initial 30 minute phone interview with the CSC manager. Then, I was invited to an in-person panel interview with the manager and 3 other upper-level employees. Come prepared with STAR-format responses and be sure to leverage past projects in your responses. If you do not have a specific response for the situation being asked, think of the closest thing to it as long as it show cases the skills they're asking for. It may be intimidating at first but everyone in the company is very friendly and helpful. Oh and have some engaging questions lined up, especially ones that can show you've done your research on Railinc and the freight rail industry. So, come prepared, professional, and with a positive attitude and you will do great!

It is a stress test, cannot call it an interview. I had a 30min initial screening call and then had a 1 hour STAR based behavioral interview with 4 people panel. They specify that I need to answer only in STAR format. These people did not want to know about me or my personality. They never bothered to ask me about my gap in the resume or anything else about me. They read out from a script, which is almost impossible to answer to, even if you prepare well. Their only purpose seemed to be to see how well I do in a stressful environment. None of them even smiled once or even never asked me to introduce myself, Just straight to the scripted questions. However, I did well, but would never put anyone else I know through this excruciating experience. It will completely kill their spirit and ruin any confidence that is left. Cannot imagine the harm they are doing to youngsters. Interview is a platform to understand the company culture as well and not a one way process, but they treat you like a guinea pig. Don’t bother applying, I cannot imagine working for such people. RUN!

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

None were direct questions. They phrase it in such a way that it would be impossible to answer any of them and then see how you handle yourself in a stressful situation.

At Railinc, we work hard to make interviews a two-way sharing of information rather than a situation that causes stress. In the initial screening phone call you mentioned, the hiring manager outlines what to expect in the hour-long panel interview with them, the team lead, a product support manager, and the director of customer success. To ease any nerves, the hiring manager tells candidates that Railinc uses situational questions and suggests looking up the STAR method of interview questions beforehand. This is done to get candidates comfortable with our process and to ensure they aren't surprised by the interview approach when they show up in person. The in-person interviews always kick-off with the hiring team asking the candidate to talk about themselves and their work experiences. They only ask about resume gaps if it is a concern. The bulk of the interview is focused on addressing potential situations rather than behavior, as outlined in the STAR process that candidates are alerted to before interviewing. The responses to these questions are meant to be a conversation, and at the end of the interview candidates are encouraged to ask about anything not covered in the initial phone screen or that day's in-person interview. We value open conversation and transparency at Railinc and the interview process is no exception. We're sorry you found this experience so stressful, but as noted, we do everything we can to prepare you for how the interview will be conducted. We have found this process identifies the best candidates for our business, and the high number of amazing people at Railinc who have ascended through the ranks, from customer success to other significant roles, is a testament to our interview process. Best of luck in your employment search!

I applied via Indeed.com and submitted my application/resume on the company career portal. I received an email to set up a phone interview, which was easily scheduled. Phone call was about 30 minutes long, the manager told me about the company and then asked standard screening questions (Biggest weakness, a time you dealt with a difficult customer, etc.). I was told they would follow up soon if the process was to continue. I scheduled an in-person interview two weeks later. The interview was about an hour long, with the hiring manager and a product manager. They asked questions from their laptops, typing most of the time while I answered. I was honest and answered the questions and even asked them if there was anything else I could tell them about to settle any concerns they might have. They said No and sent me on my way. Followed up with a thank you email the next day. I was told before I left that since my interview was a week before Thanksgiving, I shouldn't expect to hear from them before the start of December, as the holidays interrupt things. Today is January 8, and after two follow-up emails offering to answer any questions or provide extra information they might need and another follow-up email acknowledging that we're probably done but I would like a few moments spared for them to tell me they are moving in a different direction, I have had no response. I wouldn't waste time on this company unless you know you are going to get the job. To invest time and energy in the interviewing process and learning about their company, only to have them ignore you is beyond disrespectful and unprofessional.
