I initially got an email when I applied that I would go on to the next steps. I scheduled a call, and the interviewer was 10 minutes late, but I got through to the next step which was a technical interview. The same interviewer was 30 minutes late this time, as well as he didn't pay any attention to what I was doing as he began to talk to a coworker for 15 minutes. When I was finished, he told me to email him with the last question, as I didn't have time to finish it because we had 30 minutes less time. Waited a week for a response, and no one ever got back to me. Would not recommend.

After passing all interviews and being on-boarded, you'd think you got the job only to have the company rescind after hiring because the CEO did not like the salary that was offered. I saw this had happened to an individual this week on Twitter. I am truly disgusted by the hiring practices here. Do not apply. I see another person left a review about being ghosted after their interview. Clearly this company has a pattern and lacks morals. Best of luck but do yourself a favor and apply somewhere else.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. President of the company rescinded my offer after on boarding began because he wasn't happy I negotiated higher than he wanted. I went through three rounds of interviewing and was made an offer. During my initial phone screening a higher up in the company told me a salary band for the position if I were to be hired. I had a video conference and an onsite technical interview which went very well. During these three stages of the interview the president's portrait loomed over the recorded Zoom conferences but never once joined into the interview. Whether he was present observing at the time I will never know. After the onsite I was asked to provide three references so I gave them two professional and one personal reference (with whom I have worked at two different jobs years ago) which is industry standard. Two days later the president, with whom I was speaking to the first time, called me up to make me an offer. It was a significant amount lower than the initial salary band I was told. I brought this up as a counter and he said with a snicker, "Yeah, she doesn't know the tech side of things and she shouldn't have told you that. The highest we would could go is 5k or 10k more." I told him +10k more was at the low end of my target salary so I would be willing to settle there. He said, "Great, I'll draft up the the offer letter for that amount and send it to you to review." I reviewed the offer, asked a few questions and then signed after deciding to say no to some other offers on the table. Because I would be working on a project for a large financial corporation which required it, they needed me to get my fingerprints scanned for a background check. I took a two hour round trip into Manhattan to the closest location available before I left for a week for my brother's wedding. That Monday during my plane ride I started receiving my on boarding through email. I set up my direct deposit, W2, company email, accessed the Jira board, entered the company Slack, picked out health care policy etc. I was asked for my headshots and bio which I spent some time crafting. Later that day I got another email telling me they actually needed an additional two references for a total of five to satisfy the background check for the financial corporation. I provided them with two more professional references within the hour. Three business days prior to my first day in the office the president called me to rescind the offer. He cited the salary offer being higher than he wanted to pay but then he tried blaming it all on me providing one personal reference along with my four professional references. Saying it was "unprofessional to provide a personal reference and for him it was a red flag". This wasn't a problem when I provided my references three days prior to him making the offer. I told him that I was never given any guidelines for what they wanted and that I could provide another professional reference if that was the problem. I was also open to renegotiating the salary but he was unreasonable and just repeated that his decision was non-negotiable. The understanding I have formed during my short experience with Rose Digital is that the president is the type to micromanage and to not trust his employees. His ego most likely rules the office. He recorded and monitored each step of the interview process but was not present himself. He blamed his management for giving out a wrong salary band. There was nothing wrong with my references. The president just didn't get what he wanted out the salary negotiation and decided to be petty about it. By backing out he most likely wasted the same amount paying his employees to interview and on board me. STAY AWAY This is still a very small company (20+ at the time of writing) so I would be very wary. You would most likely be at the beck and whim of a president/owner you can't trust and whom doesn't trust you. The company has been around for almost 6 years but has remained small which is very often the result of an owner/present that can't give up control thus strangling growth.

I appreciate the detail you put into your review. We are definitely a small company but the work we do touches critical data with some of the largest institutions in the world. In practice that means we have to be stringent (both technically and ethically) on our hires both during the interviews and especially in the reference checking phase of our process. In this case, the first red flag was that your first reference submitted (of 2) was a personal friend. That alone did not disqualify you as you mentioned but it certainly put us all on guard. Then, during your salary discussion you represented that a leader in the company had made you an out of band salary offer. In retrospect, I should have first checked that it was accurate before sending it for papering. When I followed up with the person you mentioned, it was made clear to me that you had lied about the offer. In your note, you call this 'negotiation.' As you mentioned, we're small so trust is incredibly important here. We can't have people any position -- much less one where they will have access to production financial data -- if they aren't truthful about simple things before they have even joined the company.
