Was reached out to by a Segment recruiter. Overall a lengthy and thorough interview process spanning 6-8 weeks. Consisted of a phone screen by recruiter >> phone screen by hiring manager >> technical homework assignment >> technical homework assignment review + case study review. Next step would have been in person interviews + a presentation, followed by (I presume) an offer. I was ultimately rejected just before the in person round. Everyone was friendly, helpful, forthcoming, and communicative. I received a lot of positive feedback throughout each round and on the technical assignment. My work experience is in a slightly different but adjacent industry, with a technical background. Assuming it was the real reason, I was disheartened to eventually get rejected for not having CDP experience (as that was obviously known from the start).The technical assignment was time consuming and required quite a deep dive in to their tech stack+documentation. Echoing what others have said they seem to be looking for someone who checks very specific boxes, over aptitude or diversity; and seem invested in spending/wasting a lot of time looking for that candidate. I even wondered how some of the interviewers passed their own interviews. Segment seems like a great company to work for. If you plan to interview with just be prepared for a large time investment with the potential to be left scratching your head.

I had 7 interviews with Segment for this position. It was great to meet the team, everyone I met was kind and respectful. I do think that 7 interviews was a little too much though. There was also a technical assignment that took up a lot of time.
