Two weeks ago I had a job interview with Sephora HQ. I was super excited, and seeing as the organization is my favourite retailer- I was looking forward to meeting with the team behind it all.
My interview itself went well. They called me to interview on a Monday, and the interview itself was scheduled for Tuesday. As a young marketing/merchandising professional, I felt I aced the interview and was told they would get back to me with a decision soon.
However, a week after the interview- radio silence. I emailed the HR contact that set up my interview, expressing how much fun I had, had interviewing with the Category Manager and asking if a decision had been made. This email was ignored.
I waited another week, and then called the HR contact on a Wednesday morning. She was friendly over the phone, promising she hadn't forgotten about me and would get back to me by Thursday (the next day) by end-of-day latest. She said she had been "tying up a few ends" and that had caused the delay.
So I waited.
The week ended without any further correspondence from her. At the start of the third week, I tried to call her again. This time, the call went unanswered. I've sent a final email, just following up on the call and saying to let me know even if the position has been filled.
I think at this stage, I have done everything reasonably expected of me. But I must say, I'm very disappointed with Sephora HQ. I feel that all candidates who've been interviewed should receive curtesy emails with feedback in a timely manner. Radio silence is definitely not the right attitude- and will only create a bad name for the organization within the talent community in time.
Anyway, I decided to post this as a heads up to anyone looking to work here. Hopefully no one else gets treated this way, and the organization smartens up. If not, maybe this post will be beneficial to other candidates.
