A recruiter from ShopBack reached out to me on LinkedIn, and asked me if I will be interested in the opening. He then arranged a 30 min call with their engineering manager. The call went nice and relaxed, the manager explained the company and role details to me, and asked me about my experience, and what I'm looking for in the next role.
After this a first coding interview was scheduled for me. There were 2 interviewers on this call. The one leading the interview had an accent that was quite hard to comprehend at times. They started the interview with introductions, whether I was familiar with the coding test platform or not, and then dove into the coding problem.
It was a 2 part coding problem. After solving the first part, they gave me test inputs to run the solution with, and asked me about the time/space complexity.
Then they shared the 2nd problem, which was built on top of the 1st one. It was like a medium lvl Hackerrank question. I managed to solve this one as well, however they didn't ask me to run any tests on it.
They said that I can ask any questions I had at this point, so I asked a bit about the expectations from the role, what the company culture and work life balance was like e.t.c. The interview ended on a positive note.
2 days later I received a generic email that the hiring team has decided not to move forward with your candidacy. I was very surprised as the previous round had gone well, and I was expecting to receive an invitation for the System Design round.
I asked the recruiter for feedback, both via email and LinkedIn, and conveyed to him that considering the coding interview went well, this was quite surprising, which is why a bit more context on this will be helpful. However, it was such a disappointment to get ghosted by the same recruiter who contacted me regularly on LinkedIn during the whole process.
Such a waste of time and energy. Honestly it was one of the worst experiences to get rejected even after I passed the interview, and get ghosted by the recruitment team without feedback.
I do not recommend anyone to invest their time and effort in interviewing with such an unprofessional team. Will reject any invitations from ShopBack in the future without even a second thought.
