      Candidature

J'ai postulé via une agence de recrutement. J'ai passé un entretien chez Snorkel Lifts (Washington, North East England, England) en mai 2023

      Entretien

Interviewed for a French-speaking role. For some reason they saw fit to interview me in Lithuanian, a language I have not spoken regularly since childhood, and ask me pointless questions about a battery hen style job I had done 13 years ago, (and where they had also worked). I had nothing much to say about it, particularly surrounding the team (from 13 years ago, and with whom I'd had little interaction). It really was not important. I find it rude to interview someone in a language that the main interviewer does not speak (Thereby excluding them from the conversation that is taking place in their presence) and that the interviewee does not speak particularly well. It made me feel awkward and uncomfortable. An interview for an English / French role should be conducted in English and in French. As they stated they were looking for a French or Dutch speaker, it is possible that they either don't know what they want or that this may not be a genuine role that they wish to fill. On a more positive note everyone I interacted with seemed OK, and the foyer nice enough. They would do well to be clearer about what they want, and avoid throwing curved balls at candidates in pointless gatekeeper interviews that are a colossal waste of everyone's time. You always know things aren't good when they do not ask questions relevant to the role and fail to show you the actual office / work environment. I have the feeling that they had some weird hidden agenda. It is possible also, since they seemed so preoccupied with stress, that they wanted to stress me out to see how I coped. I tried as best I could to get through it and include the main interviewer in the conversation by way of courtesy. They will have some luck filling that purported role due to a skills shortage in this area, therefore their odd interviewing tactics may well have backfired on them. Anyway, that is their problem. As my nan used to say:- "If it doesn't open, it's not your door." It is quite possible that I had a lucky escape.
