The interview process began with a video screening that was oddly inappropriate at first. Upon coming up on screen, I was greeted with surprise and fawning over my appearance, and told "I didn't expect you to look like Denzel." The comparison to a famous actor was strange and I feared that we wouldn't get down to business about the role. Eventually we did. There seemed to be aggressiveness around which end of the salary range I'd expect to be compensated within. Some hustling was certainly at work. After learning what subsequent interview rounds would entail, I was later confirmed for a second interview. During that video call, I was questioned by someone who seemed disengaged but assured me that they were attentive despite looking at different screens during the process. Either way, it was distracting and conveyed confusion around how my responses were received. For nearly 2 months thereafter, I was ghosted. An email response was finally sent, saying "although your experience is impressive, we have chosen to work with a staffing agency to select a candidate whose background and experience is more closely match our needs for this particular position." Literally, with that exact grammar.
