Interview took place over the Internet as a quiz, which they have had for years. It did not seem to me that they read it. Next they sent me a piece to translate really quickly and I had to wait weeks for the results. I did not get them.

Hello, anonymous freelance translator, I am CEO of the company. Thanks for sharing the feedback. Let me list your concerns, then you will see whether I understood you correctly. I will give reply in the same line: 1) you did a test translation but did not get Quality Evaluation results? CEO response: it is strange that you did not receive evaluation results, check you Spam folder in gmail or write to our HR people, we will resend it. Otherwise it would be a wasted effort of application process both for you and for our HR people. Generally, I accept this feedback as constructive. Write to HR people and we will resend your results. Thanks!

Firstly they have you send in a CV and motivation letter then they have you answer a survey online about your qualifications, work load and salary expectations that you will not be able to save a copy of. The second stage of the interviewing process is not actually having a face to face interview with you buy they give a translation text as a test with various texts from different fields that you have marked suitable for you in the online survey. This test takes about 2-4 hours to finish and they do not pay you for it. They also require you to perform the test over the weekend as a "fast" job. They do not give feedback about the test for a long time, around 3 weeks of waiting and only get response once you ask about it and then they say, sorry, you didn't qualify without any further explanations. Once I require more about the results, they send a fake excuse that does not reflect anything about translation quality but about simple things like, you had a space before a semicolon that shouldn't be there. My test result was with a 95% accuracy on very difficult technical, infotechnological and medical texts which they assessed as "not suitable". This is a scam operation, where they have "job applicants" do free urgent translations for them and you will be out of 4 hours of time and effort put in the translation and no feedback for a long time.

Hello, I am the CEO of the company. Thank you for sharing the feedback. Did I understand you correctly? 1. You applied for a position of a freelance contractor and agreed to perform an unpaid test translation. 2. You are not satisfied with the test results as they were not positive . 3. You waited for test results too long, for 3 weeks. 4. You suspect that company is not earning money from typical project management of translation projects. You suspect that company gets all projects translated free of charge by new applicants for a freelancer position. I investigated your case. Our Human Resource colleagues remember clearly that you had very intense emotions when they informed you that you did not pass our test translation exam. While I am sorry that you got upset, I am confident that any translation company needs to have reliable hiring procedures if they care about the quality of future projects. The most of the translation companies follow this long, but reliable hiring process: 1) evaluate candidate`s experience, education or qualification from the CV (not very reliable, but gives some information that can be verified later), 2) ask the candidate to translate a very short text (100-400 words) (the most objective source of information) 3) give the result to another trusted expert translator to evaluate and fill the form 4) informs the translator about result (a pass or a fail, yes or no). I understand that process is long and can take several weeks in worst case if that expert linguist is on holiday or has many assignments. However, it is a typical process for any translation company to manage the quality of subcontractors. We clearly state the process and you agreed that test piece would not be paid. There is an alternative, better way to prove your competencies more quickly – to pass the official Authorized Translator exams provided by the third party as per national law. My advice would be “don’t get upset by negative exam results, sometimes requirements are stricter and you cannot be a winner all the time :)“. Additionally, if you have doubts whether the translation company you apply exists at all or impersonates, you can check an excellent article from American Translators Association: http://bit.ly/2I7vTlG , they tell how to verify whether such person only pretends to be the real company or is a reputable company. We don’t pretend, we are a real, medium size company of ~80 people in Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine (http://bit.ly/2tkcKcE), established in 2005. We have won prestigious awards in prestigious Technology Fast 50 rating of the whole Central Europe (the official link from government website http://bit.ly/2oKx2sL, or read the longer text about the award ceremony in London Tower http://bit.ly/2D0FgzJ).
