The interview process was very much as has been previously described (and summarised again below). The multiple stages will not only give you an insight into how Berkeley work and the culture of the firm, it also gives you plenty opportunity to meet a number of the partners, ask lots of questions and generally get a feel for the place - which I personally found really valuable. Each of the partners were impressive in their own right and seemed like they would be good to work for. Berkeley's internal recruitment/HR team are excellent, professional and friendly and they were always prompt to give feedback following each round of the process which was great. I never had to wait more than a day or so to be told the outcome of an interview. 1) Phone interview with Berkeley's recruitment lead covering all aspects of my CV and experience to date as well as some competency based questions. There was also the opportunity to ask questions about the interview process. Tone was professional but very friendly - gave a really good first impression of the firm and confirmed what I'd already heard and read. 2) 1.5 hr interview with one partner, though felt more like an informal discussion. Aim of testing whether you are right for Berkeley and whether they are right for you (expect to be probed on drivers for leaving your current job, what motivates you at work, your values and working styles etc). Plenty of time for questions. 3) 1.5 - 2hr interview with two partners. After brief introductions, I got 10 minutes each to present two projects I had led/managed - unlike other reviews below I did bring along some simple material to aid the discussion (after clarifying with Berkeley's recruitment lead this was ok). Following each presentation there was then 30-40 mins of questioning. Much more 'interview-like' than the first face-to-face in terms of tone; it was challenging but fair, and I was asked interesting questions that really probed the extent of my experience and the boundaries of the role I carried out. Advice here would be to lead with the client problem, really focus on what you did, what you found challenging and why, and how you overcame specific hurdles. Time for questions at the end. 4) After completing the online tests, the final round is a 3hr case study with one partner and the recruitment/HR lead. This is split into several sections as has already been covered below. Challenging in terms of the volume of material and tight timescales, but gives very good insight into how Berkeley work. I think there's also an emphasis on assessing how you work, rather than whether the answers you come up with are totally right. There's a final opportunity to ask questions and to even get a bit of a tour of the office if you ask nicely! Overall a thorough, challenging but good interview experience that will really allow you and Berkeley to determine whether you're right for each other.

I was reached out to by recruiters originally in 2024 and declined the interview due to the length of the process. Then again was reached out to in 2026 and pursued the opportunity. I went through four different rounds. First round was with the internal recruiter second round was with one partner for a behavioral interview second round was with two partners to walk through 2 project examples and a third round was with two more Partners to do a case study. I received feedback after each round and it seemed that ultimately the decision came down to the feedback out of the case study. They decided not to make an offer which to me seem like a massive waste of time because if they had done the case study earlier they would have been able to make that determination must faster given that each round was in person and over 2 hours. Overall they were nice people, but their process could be rearranged. Moreover, none of the partners were successfully able to convince me that they are not all glorified project managers as often they staff a individual contributor. My instinct was right to avoid them in 2024!

7 months after submitting my initial application, I was recently contacted by a recruiter at The Berkeley Partnership. Despite the delay, I was excited to engage in the interview process. There were some early communication challenges, but we eventually connected for an initial intake assessment via video, followed by a 45-minute phone screen, which went very positively. I was then invited to the NYC office for a first-round interview with one of the Partners (I1) that I covered on my own, as I was going to be in the city during the timeframe. I felt the in-person conversation was engaging and constructive. The Partner asked thoughtful questions about my consulting experience, navigating challenging client relationships, and my cultural fit with the firm. However, toward the end of the interview, I noticed the Partner becoming somewhat disengaged—drawing on his notepad as I spoke—which was disappointing and made me question how the interview had gone while it was still happening. I was told I would receive a decision by the end of the day. After two follow-ups, I finally heard back a week later. The recruiter informed me that I wouldn’t be moving forward and after asking why, she mentioned that even though I was a great fit for the organization culturally, I was rejected due to my specialization and experience in a particular product and concerns about the depth of my change management experience—both of which were reflected in my resume and discussed during earlier stages of the process. The only additional feedback I received was to “switch firms” to broaden my experience outside my area of expertise. This feedback felt dismissive and left me questioning why I was advanced through multiple interview stages if those were seen as disqualifying factors from the outset. While I’m disappointed with the outcome, I remain grateful for the opportunity and would still welcome the chance to work at The Berkeley Partnership in the future, as it is a great organization and seems like a great place to work culturally. That said, for a firm that prides itself on close-knit relationships and professionalism, the significant delay and lack of communication throughout the process along with the Partner disinterest during the interview felt inconsistent with those values. My hope is that my feedback helps future candidates receive the level of respect and consideration that was, unfortunately, lacking in my experience.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your Berkeley interview experience. We're sorry to hear that it did not meet the high standards we aspire to. We are normally proud of the positive feedback we often receive from candidates, which makes it especially disappointing to hear that on this occasion, we did not get it right. Please know that we are carefully reviewing your comments and our internal processes to identify areas for improvement—particularly in how we communicate with candidates. Our goal is to ensure a positive and respectful experience for every candidate, every time, regardless of whether they go on to join Berkeley or not. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

The interview process challenged me, yet most importantly, gave me confidence that I was getting to know the true culture of Berkeley from my first round interview. There were three total rounds, and by the third round, I was felt assured that it would be a good fit if I were to be hired. I found the interview process challenging as the interviews were over an hour and required me to really have a concise story of my consulting history and deep knowledge of my past projects.
