I interviewed during summer 2021 and found the process unprofessional. After completing interviews with the department director and Superintendent, I was excited about the role. HR called me and offered me much less than what the director said the salary range would be. The HR employee's tone was rude and condescending. After pushing back, they offered Senior Communications Specialist instead of just Communications Specialist to get closer to my requested rate. It was still pretty low, but my main reason for wanting to work there was to participate in the Choose Topeka program, which I mentioned several times in my interviews. They never told me they didn't participate in the program until after I accepted tentatively, on the basis that I wanted to participate in that program and that I could fund sufficient housing. I did not accept.
