Entretien
I’ve interviewed for over 20 years and countless organizations and never had seen such blatant dishonesty and lack of respect for a candidate as demonstrated by Toronto Community Housing Corp.
Applied for the role online through TCHC job portal and received a request for interview after a few weeks. The interview was quite lack lustre, 5 generic questions given and I spent the next hour explaining the answers . The interviewers were senior managers who didn’t seem keen on asking questions or digging deeper on my answers.
Fast forward couple weeks later, I hear from HR that I was awarded the job and that would like to do reference checks. Negotiations for salary and vacation are Terrible. Will only offer 25% of the salary band and refuse to budge on vacation time or any details (take it or leave it mentality). In the end I decide to take the salary offered and move to reference checks.
HR insists that one references that is acceptable in my current role’s supervisor . Very odd and never heard of asking your current employer to reference your next job..,after arguing back and forth they insist this is a the ONLY option. I let my supervisor know about the reference request and they agree to participate…the reference with my supervisor turns into 20 minute interview asking about my strengths and weaknesses, and confidential work related to my current role that cannot be discussed…Fast forward 2 months after the references and TCHC refuses to provide an update other than
“I apologize for the delay in hiring process. Please note you are still under consideration for the role and I hope to have an update available shortly” and “Confirming you are the only candidate under consideration” . While at the same time reposting the role on multiple job boards across the internet…
I stopped asking for updates, as the lack of transparency and honesty is disheartening. In the end I damaged my position at my current role. I would warn any potential candidates of my story and be extremely careful when dealing with an organization lacking morals and professional integrity.
