I was first vetted on the phone. After they reviewed my application, I met with multiple department heads. The gave me a low offer at the very beginning and I had to negotiate. It resulted in a slight bump. I am glad that I always negotiate the first offer. The whole process took about a month. Very typical. I would say that each department in UCLA does things differently. The only constant factor is that we all get paid on the low end of the market.
