I did an internship with the UNDP and kept in touch with some of my colleagues. Eventually a project came up where they needed to hire a consultant. I was offered the position, but still had to go through the application process. Basically, they listed the need for someone with my exact credentials on the website, made me apply, and then picked me. I feel bad for people that spent time on their application.
