Going through the interview process with Udemy was highly disappointing. I understand that sometimes the interview process can take time, but in the case of Udemy, this was ridiculous. It took 4 months. It started with a phone screen with the recruiter, which went well. Then a couple of weeks later, a call with the hiring manager. All went well and I was told I would proceed to the next round. Then weeks passed and I heard very little. Several emails back and forth, saying more was coming, but then nothing. I continued to be proactive and follow up, and was eventually handed off to new recruiters, who then scheduled an onsite with multiple people. This onsite interview seemed to go well - nice people who are passionate about the company. By the end of the interview, I was told that I would likely be brought onsite again to meet with more people. Then... nothing. For weeks. I reached out several more times, and eventually got yet another new recruiter to inform me that I would be contacted again in a week or two. Then... nothing again. After another month passed of hearing nothing, I decided to reach out one last time, to close the loop once and for all. On this particular email, I received a quick response, only to inform me that they hired someone else already. Them offering the position to someone else is not what bothered me. Sometimes it's just not a fit - it is what it is. Rather, what is disturbing is the fact that had I not reached out again, Udemy would have never contacted me, never said a thing, despite having a referral, despite all the communication between use over the past few months, despite all my best efforts to try and get updates from them. This was an unacceptable experience. It was disrespectful and careless.
