1st recruiter call, 2nd take home design challenge. There was no background interview or portfolio review before given the take home design challenge.
The red flag was when the design challenge was a problem that is directly related to their business. It seems like they are having designers solve design problems for them (possibly instead of hiring designers?).
Based on how the challenge was written, it was implied they are interested in visual & UI design over product design. The challenge was written by someone who does not understand the difference between role types.
I do not recommend product designers interview for this company.

Fui abordado pelo linkedin e convidado a fazer uma entrevista inicial para um cliente no ramo das finanças. A descrição da vaga era clara e já havia o salário, ponto positivo. Porém depois da entrevista não obtive retorno, mesmo solicitando um.

• Presented one project, chatted about process
Likely declined due to the inability to speak to a hypothetical ideal UX process, which having worked with a lot of companies never conforms to a documented process
Recommend asking to view product to get a sense of the work and have work examples with deeper user research activities. Skill at design is irrelevant.

Entretien
I had an extremely positive interview process with Upstart. I applied for the Product Design position and throughout the process, was able to speak with members from Engineering, Design, Product, and even one of Upstart’s co-founders, too. I was given a design challenge, but it was specified that this was for a feature that had already shipped, meaning this wasn’t a way to have candidates perform real design work. The team was friendly, open, transparent, and provided me with several ways to follow-up with any questions or concerns that I had. Finally, my recruiter was incredibly friendly, supportive, and was there for me throughout the entire interview process. They always ensured that I felt prepared, had all of the information I needed, and gave me plenty of time to really consider the role and decision to join Upstart. I sincerely believe this was one of the best interview experiences I’ve had.

Something unique to this interview was being asked to do a live pair-design session with an engineer, where we looked at a page that was live on the website today and worked together on how we might improve it.
