J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Upwork (Toronto, ON)
Entretien
The overall recruitment process was very smooth. The Talent Aquisition team was outstanding and they kept me posted at every stage.
I had multiple rounds and the overall process was fairly long but everyone I met with was an expert in their own field. I also liked that people were really nice - shows the overall culture of the company.
I got through but I had to decline due to my personal situation needing a remote job and this was a hybrid role. But I really liked everything about the company. Would highly recommend.

Question 1
Focus was on situational and behavioral questions.
Received an email to book my 30 min internal recruiter phone screen days in advance. Received my call day of and recruiter goes on the typical spiel of how the conversation is going to with her explaining the company and role and me talking to my experience.
Then the conversation took an odd turn. Recruiter tells me the job requirements as listed within the
posting weren’t really accurate. Whoever posted this didn’t put in the MAIN job requirement asking if I had that experience. Let’s break this down a bit more.
The main job requirement wasn’t in the JD but you have a copy of my resume. Why not take the time to review it see if that experience is listed and send me an email to confirm before wasting my time for a call that I took time away from my FT job to take for this phone screen.
Further, they then said they’d confirm again with the hiring manager what exactly they were looking for with the position requirements then get back to me. Again, why was this not confirmed before the phone screen. They then asked my salary expectations for the role. Seriously? How do you expect me to give my salary expectations for a role that for one you never even went over with me and may be a different role in its entirety than what I applied for.
Overall pretty poor experience.
All-in, the interview process with Upwork was ~8 hours between phone interviews and the onsite interview. I enjoyed my conversations with the team very much. The red flag occurred after my onsite interview... the recruiter went radio silent for close to two weeks. I followed up, to then receive a DQ note via email. Yikes! It's unprofessional and a poor candidate experience to drop communication with a finalist, not least of which to DQ them via email. When my HR peers in the Bay Area ask about my interview experience with different companies, Upwork always stands out for that reason. I hope this was a one-off and not common practice. With unemployment rates as low as they are, candidates have the upper hand and any misstep with their experience can make or break whether they stay engaged, or choose to engage again in the future.
