To begin with, I am employed with a major British localization company. Some time ago, a Welocalize recruiter contacted me via my LinkedIn profile. They found my qualification suitable and suggested me applying for this position. I found it interesting, so I did.
I think the first Skype interview went well. Sort of “getting to know each other” thing. After that, I was provided with the first test to check my translation/transcreation skills. It was quite easy, and I successfully passed it.
Later on, another Skype interview with another person was scheduled. They were supposed to get to know me a little and schedule the second test with the client. We had a nice interview (at least, that’s what I thought), and this person told me that the recruiter would contact me about the second test. The recruiter did, but just to let me know they were terminating the application process. It was a basic rejection letter, no valid reason or explanation was provided. And I didn’t get any reply to my follow-up email.
Meanwhile, several other people working for Welocalize checked my LinkedIn profile, so I can only guess that they were coming up with some group decision. I can’t think of any objective reason for this rejection, and the company didn’t bother to provide me with any.
During my second interview, I did ask the interviewer some questions on how they worked with the client being one of three vendors. Was there any tension between the vendors? How would they describe the relocation process and stuff? Basically, all the questions a sane person would ask before making a life-altering decision. I got some answers, but maybe it was the moment where I went wrong.
So, to sum it up, it was the most confusing, frustrating, and time-wasting employment experience in my life. And it wasn’t even my initiative in the first place.
