It's a long process!
- 45 mins screen with internal recruiter
- 30 mins interview with an engineering manager
- prepare an asynchronous communication exercise where you teach a technical concept for up to 20 minutes
- 60 mins Q&A on the asynchronous communication exercise and code review
- 60 mins system design interview
- 2 x 45 mins behavioural interviews
The people I interviewed with were great, I felt comfortable the whole way through, and for the most part communication with the recruiter was good. But the amount of work to do to get through these interviews is tough. The asynchronous comms exercise in particular takes a lot of time to prepare. 20 mins is about 5000 written words...you're basically writing an essay. I don't know anyone with a family life or a lot of personal responsibilities could reasonably have the time to dedicate to all of this. I appreciate that they really want to find the right candidates, but for a mid-senior engineer this is way too much.

1 month wait between applying and hearing anything back. Talent screen was relatively in-depth interview. I was told that I'd hear within a few days, 6 weeks later I hadn't heard anything and asked for feedback. I didn't get a direct reply but the same day I received an email inviting me to the next round (hiring manager interview) , then a few hours later another email telling me that they'd moved forward with another candidate 🙃.
Overall poor candidate experience and reflects poorly on the company,

Initial call with recruiter was fine until difficulty around salary expectations. Waited one week on “I need to check” didn’t hear back, chased and then was asked whether I would consider lower banding which is startup code for less pay same responsiblity. Asked to speak to hiring manager to consider this and was ignored. Avoid.
